» Boss Strategies

These strategies are based on how I managed to defeat the bosses in Killer7. I don't know if these are the most effective strategies, as I'm only a newbie to this game - but they definitely did the trick for me, so hopefully they'll help others out, too. I've set out the boss strategies in the order that they appear in the game - In other words, according to the scenario in which they appear in. I've included strategies for Killer8 too (as far as I've gotten up to), and I've also included strategies for all the sub-bosses. Difficulty is rated out of 5 stars, going from easy → most difficult.

Something to take note of - mainly for first timers: For all the Heaven Smile sub-bosses, the slightest bit of damage taken will kill any of the Killer7. This includes failing to defeat the Heaven Smile, which would ultimately result in taking damage as it detonates. If that's the case, the fallen persona will have to be revived and the sub-boss fight attempted again.

» Target 00: Angel

 » Sub-Boss: Speed Smile

The Speed Smile only appears once in the game - as a sub-boss. You can kill this thing with just as much ease as the other Heaven Smiles. This one just moves faster and in an awkward manner. I prefer to use Dan for this, though you could use Kaede to be safe and snipe it from afar, but Dan or Con would be effective as well. Just keep shooting at it - Kill it before it gets to you, obviously. :p

The Speed Smile is just as easy to beat in Kiler8 mode as it is in normal difficulty.

 » Boss: Angel

The first boss you encounter is some 'straight-out-of-a-typical-anime' kind of girl - with the huge kawaii (cute) eyes, etc >_> Anyway, the first part is really easy - just shoot her wings.

Now the second part is when the real fight begins, and is fairly easy too. There're 4 masks on her back that you must shoot - from quite a distance. I recommend Kaede and her scope for this fight. Wait until she fires a fireball at you - you can tell when she's gonna fire one when her hand shines first. Once you see her hand glow, start running and keep running 'til you can get a good shot at her back - you can't take your time, though. I run 'til I can see her side-on, then I take aim. Once she turns to face you, wait for her to fire another fireball, run, shoot, repeat and finish her off.

The third part is just as easy as the first part, and involves shooting at Kun Lan. He'll be transparent so wait for him to show up, then shoot him and that's that. Shoot his glowing hand using Harman after the cutscene to end the Angel scenario. Just a quick note though: Aim and shoot too fast and you'll most likely miss Kun's hand (as I found out when I thought I was spot on, but when I fired it actually fired up off the mark and missed -_- Due to Harman's waver, perhaps?)

Anyway overall, I think this is one of the easiest boss fights in the game (only one other is even easier :p). Even in Killer8, this is just as easy as playing normal mode. This angel boss can be defeated even at Level 0 - though Kaede's waver at Lv 0 is a bit unsteady, I still recommend her for this fight.

 » Sub-Boss: Phantom Smile

These guys can be a pain in the arse if you're careless. It's pretty straight forward though, just aim for the enlarged body part and kill it with one shot. Accidentally shooting it elsewhere will cause it to warp in front of you and detonate - you'll die if you fail, as is the same with all sub-boss Heaven Smile encounters. Kaede would be your safest option, otherwise use any of the others but Mask to kill it. (I've not tried with Mask, but I think his explosive shots would cause the Phantom Smile to detonate in front of you)

 » Boss: Julia Kisugi

She's reasonably easy to fight - it's pretty much a shoot-off. There's a time limit, and whoever fires the most bullets that hit successfully will be the victor. In normal mode I used Con, as he has the fastest firing and reload rate at that point in the game (not to mention he is the fastest out of the whole 7). Just aim at her and keep firing. You want to hit her enough times so that she flinches and pauses - keep in mind that if she hits you enough times you'll flinch and pause momentarily too, so just keep firing. Once the timer has run out, a tally will be made of how many hits were made successfully. If you get a higher number than hers, you win.

In Killer8, Julia is a bit more trickier to fight and I actually found young Harman the best for this, since he fires 50 rounds at a time, not to mention he uses a machine gun :D

Either use Con (fast reload and firing rate) or Kevin (no need to reload) to fire at this enemy's arms to get it to spin around, so that it exposes it's only weak-spot which is on its back. Shoot that and you kill it.

 » Boss 1: Jean dePaul

The first time I fought him I found that it's easy to get caught up in his attacks, so to be safe, I made sure I had a few vials of thin blood handy. The ceiling is cracked in 3 places, so basically you have 3 chances to shoot the ceiling above Jean dePaul as he runs past (under it). So timing is the key. Mask is definitely the best for this fight. Jean will pause sometimes after he shoots, so just before he's about to run out from the side he's standing at, fire at the part of the ceiling closest to him, just as he starts to move. Pin him once, and you've won.

Facing him in Killer8 is a bit more difficult, as he's faster and fires more often. I guess I was lucky and killed him after he shot at me once, but still, if you're not paying attention it's easy to get caught up in his gunfire. Again, use mask and try and time your shots right.

» Boss 2: Hiroyasu Kurahashi and Shinya Akiba

Urgh, this is one of the boss fights I dislike the most. It involves a lot of patience and a steady aim. Basically these two guys hurl brains at you, and you've gotta try and shoot their exposed brains in their heads at the same time as shooting or avoiding the thrown ones. Take note that the brains cause damage upon contact, so be careful and either avoid them or try and shoot them. If you dunno what you're doing at first, then this fight can be really frustrating. Kaede is definitely the best to take care of this boss.

Anyway, the trick is to shoot the right-sided guy's tie (Kurahashi), so that the guy on the left (Akiba) walks over to adjust it, while at the same time exposing his brain so that you can shoot it. Once Akiba is taken down, the remaining guy will hurl more brains and at a faster rate. In Killer8 he throws 5 brains and in normal mode, 3. In normal mode, shoot 2 of the 3 brains, and you'll notice that he'll turn to his side and lower his head a bit, while at the same time exposing his brain for you to shoot. In Killer8, all 5 brains have to be destroyed in order to get him to do this action. So either shoot all of them, or simply avoid them. In both normal and Killer8 it takes 2 shots each to kill them. (though I think the last guy took 3 shots to kill in Killer8)

A strategy I found effective to avoid the brains Kurahashi (the last guy) hurls, is to 'mislead' the brains. I found this particularly useful in Killer8, because I noticed all 5 brains must be destroyed before he turns. The brains lock-on to wherever you're standing, and once they speed up and get closer, they won't change direction - so use this to your advantage. You could take out one or two first from afar if you can before they get too close, so then you only have to avoid 3 or 4 (Killer8). Once you see them speeding up and heading straight for you, run to the middle or the other side of the table, where you can get a clear shot of Kurahashi's brain.

 » Boss: Ulmeyda

This is one creepy boss, and on top of that, the screeching sounds he makes when he flings his tentacles (?) at you, make it even creepier. :p

My initial reaction to this fight was 'okay...what the hell? o_O', especially since I didn't have a clue about how to defeat him. Regardless, as I eventually figured it out, this fight is actually pretty straight forward - shoot his afro that dangles behind him. As easy as that sounds, it can actually get really annoying, since Ulmeyda's afro moves around and isn't all that big. You have to run around the aligned ambulances to get behind him, so that you can shoot his afro as it floats around behind him. If you get too close or run into him, then you die. On top of that, if you do die on your first try (or whatever), when you go to retry he's already somewhere in the ambulances, so the chances of actually running into him are high in that case. So be careful!

I used Dan in normal mode, though either Con or Kevin would be good to use, too. The afro only needs to be shot once to kill Ulmeyda (even in Killer8), so whoever's fast and has a good waver level would be best to use. Try and guess where it'll move into your line of fire, and keep shooting. Be careful, as Ulmeyda will start attacking as soon as you fire (if he hasn't spotted you already).

In Killer8 mode, his afro floats in front of him as well as behind, while bobbing up and down, not to mention that it moves around faster and a lot more, so getting a good aim at it becomes quite tricky. Ulmeyda will attack as soon as he even hears you - and even if you're in the next ambulance, if you're in his line of view, he will attack (you'll hear his 'OW!' before he attacks), and most of the time it will always hit you. I found Harman the most effective to use, because of his high magazine capacity and fast firing rate, not to mention his waver is pretty decent. Just keep firing and you'll eventually hit Ulmeyda's afro.

 » Sub-Boss: Mithril Smile

A normal HS covered in armor - either shoot its weak spot which is often on it's arm (that isn't covered fully), or shoot it 'til its armor breaks then kill it like a normal HS. I just use Dan and his powerful revolver to take care of these guys. Mask does wonders, too.

 » Boss: Ayame Blackburn

This has to be the most annoying boss fight out of the entire game. This and one other, plus the fight against the brain throwing geezers. Ayame is really freaking fast, as well as annoying. (I still love Killer7, nonetheless! XD) Anyway, she runs fast as hell around a dimly lit parking lot, while randomly firing her machine gun at you. The only time you can actually damage her is when she's directly under the light. I used Dan, and this fight really tested my patience. So yeah, timing and aim are most important. If you can guess at what point she'll pass a certain lamppost, this will increase your chances of successfully hitting and stunning her. Have some vials of thin blood handy, just incase you get caught in her gunfire.

 » Boss 1: Ayame Blackburn - take 2

I can't express how annoying this brat is! She still has that machine gun of hers, too. She runs in and out from behind large shutters that open at random intervals. When she's visible in the light, that's the only time you can damage her, so just shoot each time you see her. Hit her before she opens fire on you. When she's near death, it'll turn into another shoot-out - just keep firing at her til she finally falls. Like the first encounter, this one is quite difficult. I used Dan again for this fight - he should have the Demon Gun at this point, so that's 12 rounds now instead of 6. If not Dan, then any fast and/or strong personality should do the trick.

 » Sub-boss: Laser Smile

These Smiles can only be taken out by shooting their heads which is their weak spot. Hit any other part of their body, or take too long then they'll fire a laser at you, which does quite a lot of damage. Again, in a sub-boss fight situation, if a persona gets hit then he/she will die instantly. A character (like Dan) that has the 'head lock-on' ability is definitely the best to use against this enemy.

 » Boss 2: Curtis Blackburn

This boss fight is reasonably easy, you just need good reflexes. Basically it's like an old show-down fight from a western movie. Once the pigeon on Curtis' arm takes flight, the first one to draw and fire gets a star (wins). To beat him you need to shoot him successfully 4 times. The pigeon tries to trick you into thinking it's going to fly, by flapping it's wings - be careful. You can tell it's gonna take flight when it coos and extends its neck. Once it takes flight simply press R1 then X (PS2) - you don't even need to adjust the aim, just fire.

» Target 05: Smile - pt I

 » Sub-Boss/Boss: Timer Smile

Just when I thought Protector ZZ Smiles, Mother Smiles and Poison Smiles were a pain in the arse - this one takes the cake. The Timer Smile is covered in different sized red spots on its body, and you have to snipe out each one before it gets to you. When it has one remaining spot left, it'll suddenly start running at you, so it makes it trickier to shoot at that last spot. It takes a lot of patience for this one, as well as a good, steady aim. Definitely use Kaede to snipe out the smaller spots especially, from afar. There's a reasonably big spot on it's chest that I leave 'til last, so when it starts charging, it's big enough to aim at when it's moving. Alternatively, there's another large-ish spot on its head.

There's no boss for part one of Smile, though judging by the difficulty of beating the Timer Smile, I'd say that's a hard enough fight for it to pass as a boss.

 » Sub-boss: Great Tomahawk Smile

Easy to kill in one shot if you use Dan's Collateral Shot. He didn't last long enough for me to see what it does, so I'm not sure what other attacks it has. But er, as long as you take it out even with Dan's Collateral Shot, that's the main thing that matters (especially in Killer8).

 » Boss: Greg Nightmare

Heh, this guy is pretty easy to beat for a final boss. Shoot at his sides to make him swing from side to side, higher and higher until you hear a sound and see his er...pants fall down :p Then, shoot at the red spot at his crouch to beat him. Ouch. Watch out though, if you take your time shooting him side to side or even shooting at the red dot, he'll shoot at you with the Golden Gun. After you blast his legs off, he'll drop the Golden Gun and at the same time bring forth 7 Heaven Smiles, but these are a different kind of Heaven Smile...

 – Shadow Smiles

These new Heaven Smiles (what I call Shadow Smiles) that appear from outta nowhere, will take out each Smith persona one by one. No matter what you do, these Shadow Smiles can't be damaged at all - there's nothing you can do but sadly and helplessly watch your beloved Killer7 get taken out :(

When you're down to the last of the 7 which will be Garcian, you'll be able to pick up the Golden Gun which rightfully belongs to him. Using the Golden Gun, take out the last Shadow Smile, then fire one last shot at Greg's noisy corpse to end the boss fight. Pretty simple. A warning though: Make sure you pick up the Golden Gun to take out the last Smile - so as soon as you can move your character, run to where the Golden Gun was dropped. Note that Garcian's regular gun won't damage the Shadow Smile at all - If it gets Garcian, it's game over and you'll have to restart from a save point.

The very last boss in the game is the 'Last Shot Smile', and is located in the basement area in what appears to be Garcian's trailer house. After making your decision when you reach Matsuken, head through the door and down the stairs. All you do is chase him through the corridors 'til you've cornered him in the room, then simply shoot til he's dead. :/
